The LDNPA Local Plan

The LDNPA Draft Local Plan is not a single document but rather a collection of policy papers and other supporting documents. Specifically the mis-named North DA Excludedsites paper includes references to building a gondola ride from Thornthwaite to the Whinlatter visitor centre as part of a significant commercial expansion in Whinlatter - page 106 Site reference: 195 - Whinlatter Base Station.    Other proposed developments within Whinlatter, and linked to, or dependent on, a gondola ride are also set out on page 96, Site reference: 174 - Whinlatter Skyline and page 98, Site reference: 198 - Whinlatter Forest.

The draft local plan was published May 2018 and rounds of consultation closed on June 29.2018.  NoGo Gondola submitted objections as part of the consultation process and an updated draft is expected to be published for consultation in late spring 2019.   We do not agree with these proposed infrastructure developments in the Lake District,  where the prime objective is to generate income for investors exploiting a national natural resource.

These proposals risk setting a precedent for future planning applications likely to exploit and ruin the natural environment.  Do we really want to see the Lake District morphed into a theme park for thrill-seekers, and to the detriment of visitors who want to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the Lake District?

Be ready to respond to the next round of consultation!
